Contributor Terms

Last updated: July 3, 2026

You ("Contributor") agree to these terms with Human Archive, Inc. ("Human Archive").

1. What you contribute

First-person ("egocentric") video clips of everyday tasks, captured with your device's cameras and motion sensors. Your clips contain video and motion data only — no audio is recorded into them. So you can record hands-free, the app listens for your spoken "start recording" and "stop recording" commands; that microphone audio is processed on your device to detect those commands only, and is never saved, added to your clips, or sent off your device. Voice-based tasks ("Voice Exchange") are a separate, optional feature that does record, store, and share your voice as biometric data; they are governed by the Voice Contributor Rules and a separate in-app consent, not this section (see section 9).

2. License you grant

You keep ownership and authorship of your clips. You grant Human Archive a worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive, royalty-free, fully paid-up, sublicensable license to host, reproduce, adapt, create derivative works from, and use your clips and their metadata to develop, train, evaluate, and improve machine-learning and robotics models, and to include them in datasets Human Archive licenses to its customers for those purposes.

3. Drafts stay on your device

Nothing leaves your device until you tap Submit. Re-record or delete any draft before then.

4. Quality check

Your clips go through an automated quality check. Part of it runs entirely on your device, confirming that your hands are visible. To confirm the clip shows the assigned task, the app also sends a small number of still frames (about one per minute, while you record) to an automated AI service; your full recordings and motion data never leave your device for this check. The app tells you about this before you record. See our Privacy Policy for what is sent and how it is handled.

5. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to contribute.

6. Deleting your account

You can delete your account anytime in Settings → Account → Delete Account. Human Archive then deletes your account and personal information. Clips you contributed that were approved are de-identified — unlinked from your identity — and kept as part of Human Archive's datasets; clips that were not approved are deleted. We'll tell you what was deleted and what was kept.

7. Privacy

How Human Archive handles your information, including biometric-related data, is described in its Privacy Policy — please read it.

8. Acceptable use

When you record, you agree to the Recording Rules, which govern what you may and may not capture. We review submissions and may reject or remove content, and suspend accounts, for violations.

9. Voice Exchange (voice tasks)

Voice Exchange is a separate, optional feature (the language assessment and live two-party conversations). If you take part: (a) your voice is recorded, uploaded, stored, and processed as biometric data; (b) conversations are all-party recorded — both participants' voices are captured; (c) you grant the license in the Voice Contributor Rules (section 5), including inclusion in datasets Human Archive licenses to third parties; (d) service providers include LiveKit and Google (Gemini); (e) retention, destruction, and your deletion and consent-withdrawal rights are as described in the Privacy Policy and the Voice Contributor Rules; and (f) you must be at least 18. The video-clip statements in section 1 (no audio in clips; on-device command audio) do not apply to Voice Exchange. Full terms: Voice Contributor Rules.
